A new technology to treat various skin inflammations, irritations and infections, in which iodine (in its molecular form) being encapsulated within vesicles of approximately 100nm, is delivered deep into the skin. The uniqueness of the technology is that quantitative amounts of molecular iodine in water solution remains stable, in contrast to other iodine solvents such as ethanol, in which iodine precipitates after water addition. With respect to fungal infections, the new technology has demonstrated fungicidal activity in addition to the fungistatic activity. It was eight times more active than its vehicle and eighty times more active than the commonly used I2/KI aqueous solution, or free I3.
