Researcher interests: biological damage and the roles played by radical and non-radical species including oxygen-derived (ROS) and nitrogen-derived (RNS) reactive species, redox-active catalytic metals, and chelating agents. Natural and synthetic antioxidants, and the mechanisms underlying their antioxidative and pro-oxidative effects. Cyclic stable nitroxide radicals, SOD mimics, the chemistry of nitroxides, their reactions with paramagnetic species, the biological effects of nitroxides, the catalytic activity of nitroxides, the mechanism(s) of nitroxide effects in cell-free systems and in tissues.
